Stamps
& Coins
Collecting stamps
and coins can be a lot of fun as well as informative. There
is so much history behind the stamps and coins you
collect.
A coin collector is called a Numaticist. Numismatics deals
with the historical, artistic, technological, social and
commercial nature of money in the present, the past and in
all countries of the world.
Acquiring a good understanding of numismatics takes some
time and effort. This is due to the fact that there are many
branches of the numismatics hobby to explore and study.
A stamp collector is called a Philatelist. Stamp collecting
started shortly after the adhesive postage stamps were
introduced by Great Britain in 1840. In 1841, a women even
placed an advertisement in the London Times in which she
requested help in collecting stamps so that she could paper
a bedroom wall.
So how does one get started on stamp and coin collecting?
The American Philatelic Society is a good place to start
your stamp collecting hobby. The American Numismatic Society
offers a great insight to coin collecting.
