About one and a half million years ago, mankind learned how to stand upright and walk. So in some way, you could say that hiking was developed during the Stone Age. Nowadays, when we talk about Hiking and Trekking, we mean it in the pastime sense of the word. It is hard to say when walking as a means of hunting and surviving became walking for fun and recreation. Throughout the years, man has always used walking as a means of relaxation. Going for a stroll is a great way to meditate on possible dilemmas or to get away from things and clear your mind.

Probably one of the most famous hiking trips that ever took place was the first trek up Mt. Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Now, that was hiking trip if you ask me!

There are many opportunities and many places for you to enjoy a hiking experience. There's probably a hiking trail close to your home that gets you out and enjoy Nature's beauty. Or for the adventurous types, there's the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail. The information on the Web regarding hiking and hiking opportunities is limitless. There's an opportunity for all hiking levels.

Just remember when you hike, always be prepared for inclement weather, carry an adequate supply of water and food, and leave No Trace.
