FIELD TRIP INFORMATION
Three field trips are scheduled for
the conference. If you are interested, please sign up at the
Registration desk. Sign up by noon on Wednesday, April 11.
You can also email your request to Wayne at wayne.f.ching@hawaii.gov.
Sunscreen and a hat is highly recommended for the field
trips.
KAHOOLAWE ISLAND
Participants will be flown to Kahoolawe Island via
helicopter, where Kahoolawe Island Restoration Commission
(KIRC) personnel will be giving a historical tour of the
island as well as the ongoing restoration efforts by
KIRC.
This is limited to 20 people. The cost is $25, cash only.
Participants must wear long pants and covered shoes, no
sandals, no shorts. A hat and sunscreen is highly
recommended. Because this is limited, you are encouraged to

email at wayne.f.ching@hawaii.gov.
The trip will last most of the day. You should be back at
the hotel by 1600 hrs., so you will have time to clean up
and get ready for the evening Line Building session.
LANA'I GAME MANAGEMENT AREA
The tour starts off with a visit to the Lana'i
Heritage and Cultural Center, where Mr. Albert Morita and
staff will be giving an oral presentation on the history of
Lana'i. You will be able to also peruse the small museum. We
will then proceed through the Lanai Game Management Area
(GMA), where DOFAW Wildlife Biologists will be talking about
the establishment of the GMA, and its importance to the
DOFAW Game Management Program. You will also be able to see
the recently completed firebreak maintenance project funded
by the ARRA federal program.
Lunch will be served at the Kaumalapau Harbor. We should be
back at the hotel by 1400 hrs.
LANA'I WATERSHED MANAGEMENT AREA
The tour starts off with a visit to the Lana'i
Heritage and Cultural Center, where Mr. Albert Morita and
staff will be giving an oral presentation on the history of
Lana'i. You will be able to also peruse the small museum. We
will then proceed through the Lana'i Wateshed Management
Area. The tour will take you through Lana'i's rainforest and
take you to the highest peak of Lana'i (3,370 ft.).
Lunch will be served at the Kaumalapau Harbor. We should be
back at the hotel by 1400 hrs.
